WOMAN - LIFE - FREEDOM

Many, many thanks to everyone who has contributed to supporting Operation Woman - Life - Freedom and Amnesty's work for women's rights in Iran. Read here about how it went.

Thanks to your and others' solidarity and generosity, we raised almost NOK 43,000 for Amnesty.

In addition, we have contributed NOK 40,000 in support and visibility. We have advertised for attention, donated to the company Subvertising, which made the case visible in the streets of Oslo, and we have used our internal resources.

Some things can't be measured in dollars and cents either. We've learned a lot about what it's like to work with fundraising for a good cause, and we're looking forward to the next time we can do something similar! There are many important causes to support, and now we want to choose a few core causes to work on each year.

And since Woman - Life - Freedom is about freedom, which is particularly important to us at KOK, this is a cause we will support again and again.

This was, and still is, the case

The burgeoning liberation struggle in Iran needs the world community's attention to be focused on the courageous feminist movement that is more than just a small flame. They stand on the edge of a revolution, and if the movement is to create a bonfire that burns down tyranny, we need to give them our support and solidarity.

KOK was started with a desire to build a brand that cares and is big enough to make a difference. Both in people's lives, but also in a larger context.

To reach out to as many people as possible who want to help, in March we raised money for Amnesty in three different ways.

1: On Splice

2: Via bookings on KOK (you can still donate an amount when you book)

3: We donated 5 % of our profits in March to Amnesty.

Why Amnesty?

Amnesty International is the organization that best spreads insight and works for human rights in Iran. It is otherwise difficult to get money into the country to support the opposition, so we rely on Amnesty.
Because there is hope here, and your contribution counts.

Amnesty is based on the idea that every person can make a difference - because it makes a difference when we stand together. They receive no support from states, which means that they can always tell the truth about an incident or abuse of power.

Those who dare to rebel against those in power in Iran will have the freedom to live life on their own terms.
The regime responds with violence, threats and death sentences. The freedom that we so easily take for granted, women in Iran are now fighting an enormously courageous battle to achieve. Amnesty is there to help them.

We believe that since you have landed on this page you would like to help, too. Know that your help goes to, among other things:

  • Investigating and exposing human rights violations
  • Inform the world and stop the abuse of power
  • Protecting the rights of people at risk

Contribute to Amnesty's political clout by signing the action "Stop the executions in Iran"

Why now?

The time is now. In September 2022, a young girl, Mahsa Amini, died after being in the custody of the so-called morality police, and since then the population has demonstrated against the oppressive regime.

Iranian women are rising up and demanding freedom, and you can actually help 90 million people to be free. Free from a regime that beats up little girls on the street for wearing the wrong headscarf.

"Woman, Life, Freedom" is the slogan that encompasses the resistance against the restriction of freedom that overshadows the lives of so many Iranians, and for many has done so all their lives.

DO YOU WANT MORE INSIGHT INTO THE BACKGROUND OF THE UPRISING?

In the documentary film HITCH - An Iranian Story, the country's history is intertwined with family history in the wake of the Iranian revolution in 1979.

Revolutionaries who opposed Khomein were silently annihilated. The daughter of one of those killed has made this film. The Iranian regime still denies the grotesque crimes and tries to cover its tracks, but Hitch sets out in search of places, objects and gestures that can help pierce the silence. Anthropologist and filmmaker Chowri Makaremi invites you on a journey into the landscape that political violence leaves behind.
