About KOK

In February 2018, KOK Oslo opened the sauna for guests on Langkaia for the first time, and since then we have had the pleasure of welcoming hundreds of thousands of guests on the pier. Now we have 10 saunas spread across Langkaia and Aker Brygge, and plans for expansion in the Oslo region. The best part about KOK is the team on the pier. And it is the hospitality, warmth, and friendliness that we receive the most positive feedback on. The crew on the pier ensures safety and cleanliness, and is there if guests have questions or need to purchase something. For example, we have our own swimwear and Badstupil, our own light beer. It’s light and refreshing and perfect for the sauna. The high level of presence is what sets us apart from others in the industry, with a team that creates a lot of happiness on the pier. Everyone should feel welcome from the moment they step off the landing to the moment they get back on it.KOK Oslo has over 4.7 out of 5.0 stars on both Lipscore and Google Reviews, and is both a Gazelle company and a winner of the Tripadvisor Travellers’ Choice Awards.Collaboration with other local actors means a lot to us, and we are, among other things, a member of Visit Oslo, Oslo Business Association, and Norges Badstulaug.Environment is important to us and we are certified by the Blue Flag for our environmental performance and annually support WWF in their important work for species diversity.Exciting things are happening ahead. We are organizing more and more events, and the much-requested membership club is finally returning. All of this and more is what our new managing director will protect and build upon. The course has been designed, and you are to be the captain who steers KOK Oslo safely and efficiently over the sea – or at least within the harbor basin – while ensuring that everyone on board has a good time.

About the position

As the day-to-day manager, you have the ultimate operational responsibility for KOK Oslo. For the operations, for the numbers, and for the team. It’s a complex job, and it’s as concrete as it is evolving. This is an operational role. The administration is compressed, and most of your time is spent on the dock with the rest of the team. You are responsible for both our facilities, Langkaia and Aker Brygge. No two days are alike; you are out and about a lot, and you see with your own eyes the joy we create for our guests. Some evening and weekend work may be expected. The frameworks are in place. You are not supposed to reinvent the concept. You are supposed to make it work. The KOKeboka is our operational and personnel manual, with procedures for everything from cleaning and guest reception to how we follow up on people, and the management instruction says how the place should be run. Your job is to make it happen in practice, day after day, with consistent quality. Your team consists of 26 people, and 7 of them have leadership responsibilities.KOK is a member of NHO, and its employees are covered by a collective bargaining agreement with the Norwegian Confederation of Trade Unions. What we measure
  • Happy team members
  • Happy guests
  • Pleasant results
They are closely intertwined. A team that is doing well takes better care of its guests, and guests who are happy come back.

Responsibilities

  • Personnel responsibility: recruitment, training, follow-up, shift rosters and working environment
  • Continue and strengthen a workplace where people stay, with low turnover and high well-being
  • Delivering a guest experience that maintains high and consistent quality
  • Order on the deck and in the back of the ship. We follow the term shipshape: everything must be tidy and clean, and everything must have its place.
  • Sales of goods and services: bookings, memberships, corporate subscriptions, sales on the pier, events, gift cards, and more
  • Purchasing, inventory counting, waste control and supplier follow-up
  • Follow-up with external partners in marketing, accounting, auditing and other collaboration partners
  • Follow up on budgets and targets throughout the year, and report on the progress made
  • Drive in accordance with the KOKeboka and the steering instructions, and ensure that the routines are followed on a daily basis
  • Structure, routines, and streamlining of internal processes
  • Order in the digital world: documentation, agreements and systems that are always up to date
  • OH&S, internal control, maritime safety and compliance with regulations

Desired qualifications

This is what the job requires. All points must be met for the application to proceed:
  • At least 2 years in the role of a day-to-day manager, or an equivalent senior operational management role
  • Real budget and performance responsibility in that role, not just reporting
  • Solid experience in financial management. You read the numbers, follow up on budgets and targets throughout the year, and intervene in time if something starts going wrong.
  • At least 2 years of experience in hospitality management: sauna, restaurant, bar, hotel, entertainment industry or similar
  • Norwegian at a level that allows you to conduct employee interviews, HSE training, government contact and written reporting without assistance
  • English at a level that allows you to welcome and follow up on English-speaking guests, employees and suppliers, verbally and in writing
  • You live in Oslo, or are willing to move here. The role requires that you be present at the pier.

Personal characteristics

  • You make people shine. You see what each individual is good at, say it out loud, and give them room to grow. People do a slightly better job when you are on guard.
  • You are committed to people staying and developing. You build stable employment relationships
  • You are naturally an operative and enjoy being there where the work is done
  • You implement it. You get things done according to a concept that already exists.
  • You are confident in numbers and like being measured. You read an account, see what drives the margin. You have good experience in taking action to keep on the right track.
  • You understand sales and enjoy it, both in terms of goods and services
  • You are a person of order, both physically and digitally

We offer

  • Fixed 100 % positions
  • Salary according to agreement
  • Opportunity for bonus after one year
  • An extremely varied workday, where you get to use all your abilities
  • Lots of fresh air and happy people every day
  • Compulsory employee pension (OTP) in DNB
  • Personal discount
